Fishing

Käsivarsi offers a variety of fishing spots for fly and lure anglers, as well as for those who enjoy fishing with a rod and ice fishing. In several lakes, fishing with a rod and ice fishing are allowed under general fishing rights without needing a permit. However, for special waters, a fishing permit is required even for rod and ice fishing. Ice fishing and rod fishing are not allowed in flowing waters. Anglers must always check the fishing restrictions at kalastusrajoitus.fi (in Finnish).

  • When lure fishing in lake areas, pay the fisheries management fee (eräluvat.fi, in finnish) and always buy a fishing permit for flowing waters.

  • For fly and lure fishing in flowing waters, in addition to the fisheries management fee, a fishing permit (eraluvat.fi, in finnish) is required. The permits for fly- and lurefishing in Käsivarsi can be found here(eräluvat.fi).

    • In the Käsivarsi Wilderness Reserve, a Käsivarsi-Tarvanto 1401 permit is required for fishing with a rod, ice fishing, fly fishing, and lure fishing in special waters (Toskaljärvi, Luohtojärvi, Marjajärvi, Bearačielggejávri, Kaitsajärvi).
    • Most of the river waters in the Käsivarsi Wilderness Reserve are covered by the Käsivarsi-Tarvanto 1401 permit. Note the specific exceptions for Lätäseno, Poroeno, and Toriseno.
    • For fishing in Lätäseno, in addition to the fisheries management fee, obtain the Lätäseno 1423 permit.
    • For fishing in Poroeno, in addition to the fisheries management fee, obtain the Poroeno 1432 permit.
    • For fishing in Toriseno, in addition to the fisheries management fee, obtain the Toriseno 1426 permit.
  • When fishing in the border river between Finland and Sweden in Käsivarsi, you need the Torniojoki-Muonionjoki-Könkämäeno permit 2502 (eraluvat.fi, in finnish).

Prevent the spread of salmon parasite

Remember to disinfect all your fishing gear if you move from Finland to Norway during your fishing trip. In Norway, a certificate of disinfection is required for fishing gear. Read more about the salmon parasite (Gyrodactylus salaris) and how to prevent its spread.

Prevent the spread of Canadian waterweed

Fishing gear must be completely dry if brought to the fishing area from elsewhere. This prevents the spread of Canadian waterweed (Elodea canadensis).
