Bird watching
Viiankiaapa Mire Reserve with its diverse bird life is ideal for birdwatching. Around 90 bird species in total have been observed here.
- Many birds of prey, grouse species and waterfowls thrive here.
- •One of the most common species is the willow warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus). Other species seen in large numbers in the reserve include the brambling (Fringilla montifringilla), meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis) and broad-billed sandpiper (Calidris falcinellus).
- The mire reserve has a birdwatching tower, which can be reached by following Viiankiaapa nature trail. Visitors return along the same trail.
- Please only observe birds from a distance – binoculars or a spotting scope are a good choice for a birdwatching excursion.
Please note! Siurunmaa nature trail and the birdwatching tower in the southern part of Viiankiaapa are closed due to duckboards that have been damaged by decay and are in a very poor condition.
