Some 90 bird species have been spotted in Viiankiaapa. Birds can be easily observed from both the nature trail and Viiankiaapa birdwatching tower.
The waters in Viiankiaapa Mire Reserve are mainly private or shared water areas. Only a small proportion of them is owned by the state.
