Staying overnight

There is one open wilderness and shared rental hut for overnight stays in the Kemihaara Wilderness Reserve, and there are also some open wilderness huts outside the boundaries of the Wilderness Reserve. You can also stay overnight in your own appropriate tent, which must always be carried with you also for safety reasons when moving around the area.

  • Camping is allowed under everyman's right.
  • When camping, consider other campers and overnight guests. They may be tired from their day's hikes and wish to enjoy the peace of nature.

Uittipiekka is the only hut in the Wilderness Reserve. At one end of the hut is an open wilderness hut, and at the other a shared rental hut. The Wilderness Reserve borders the Urho Kekkonen National Park to the north and northeast, where there are several open wilderness huts. There is also the Pihtijoki open wilderness hut near the western border of the Wilderness Reserve.

  • An open wilderness hut is shared accommodation where self-guided hikers can rest and spend the night free of charge (not for commercial use).
  • In a shared reservable hut, you can book a bed for one or two nights against payment.
  • By following the Hut etiquette, you take the environment, safety and other hikers into consideration. Read more about the Hut etiquette.
