The hazel groves of Harola are truly worth seeing and experiencing. They are at their most magnificent in spring, when the woodland flowers are in bloom. Another major attraction in the area is the Iron Age burial cairn site, which has been designated an ancient relic site of national significance. Both the grazed grove and the cairn area can be explored along the nature trail. Part of the trail passes through a sheep pasture, so please keep your dog outside the grazing area.
The floral splendour of the grove and the birdsong are at their best from mid-May to mid-June. The exact peak of the bloom depends on the weather conditions in spring, and the liverworts (Hepatica nobilis) tend to bloom slightly earlier than the wood anemones (Anemone nemorosa).
