Swimming

You may swim in Lake Oulujärvi all around Ärjänsaari Island. You can swim and sunbathe, enjoy the sea-like atmosphere on the beach, or you can play beach volley or throw a flying disc. Take your own ball or flying disc with you. Swimming in the waters of Ärjänsaari Island is at your own risk.
- There is no official beach on Ärjänsaari, but you can find several pleasant swimming spots around the island.
- The safest places to swim are in the middle section of Säippä’s long sandy beach and at place called Lentohiekka.
- Be cautious of the deep and strong currents at the tip of the Säippä peninsula and on both sides of it.
- Do not swim near the Säippä pier or close to the submerged barge wreck next to it.
Fishing
Located in Lake Oulujärvi, Ärjänsaari Island is surrounded by fishing waters. You may angle and go ice fishing under the everyman’s rights. For all other types of fishing, you need the appropriate permits and a paid Fisheries management fee. You can learn more about these on the Eräluvat online service (eraluvat.fi).

Geocaching
There are geocaches on Ärjänsaari Island. Geocaching is a fun way to explore the island.
Berry and mushroom picking
You are allowed to pick berries and mushrooms on Ärjänsaari Island.
Skiing
You are allowed to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Ärjänsaari Island. The Koutaniemi-Vuoreslahti village society organises the Ärjän kierrän skiing event annually in March.
