Parking area at Viiankiaavantie 152. The parking area has space for approximately 3–4 cars.
The Viiankiaapa Nature Trail begins at the parking area along Viiankiaavantie. At first, the landscape is forested, but it quickly transitions into more marshy terrain. Most of the trail consists of duckboards, which make it easy to follow the route. From the parking area, it is approximately 0.9 km to the first trail junction. Along this initial section, the trail passes, for example, the small Kokkolampi lake on its southern side.
At the trail junction, you arrive at the circular section of the Viiankiaapa Nature Trail. This section can be walked in either direction, and the full circuit is approximately 2.3 km long. The circular trail passes through extensive open mires and runs close to the shore of Lake Viiankijärvi. The Viiankijärvi campfire hut is located on the eastern side of the section.
From the circular trail section, you can also continue to the Viiankiaapa birdwatching tower and further to the Särkikoskenmaa lean-to shelter. On the southern edge of the circular trail, the trail splits. By continuing south, you’ll reach the birdwatching tower, which is about 1.8 km from the junction.
Shortly before the Viiankiaapa birdwatching tower, the trail splits again. From the junction, it is approximately 0.4 km to the Särkikoskenmaa lean-to shelter.
The Viiankiaapa Nature Trail does not continue beyond the Särkikoskenmaa lean-to shelter. The return to the parking area follows the same route. The shortest distance from the Särkikoskenmaa lean-to shelter back to the parking area is approximately 3.7 km, or about 0.8 km longer if you choose to return via the Viiankijärvi hut.
