The route marker is a purple circle.
Terassikierros trail starts from the parking area and leads past the lookout tower. The view from the tower is not something you would want to miss.
The trail starts to descend along the slopes of Lauhanvuori. Quite soon, you can stop at the campsite outside Lauha rental hut. The campfire shelter, well and dry toilet outside the rental hut can be freely used by all visitors. To reach it, you only need to go off the trail for a distance of 150 metres each way.
Terassikierros continues to descend along the slopes of Lauhanvuori. Some trail sections are level and follow ancient shoreline embankments, while others descend more steeply.
When you reach a junction, continue westwards. The trail leads along a wider forest path. After about 1.5 kilometres, you reach another junction. You can continue straight ahead to the west and make a detour to Kaivolampi campsite and campfire site. The distance to Kaivolampi and back again adds around one kilometre to your hike.
From this junction, Terassikierros trail continues south along a narrower forest path, still in light-filled hillside forests. The trail follows the edge of a mire and starts climbing gently.
After 2.5 kilometres, you cross a road and start heading towards Lake Spitaalijärvi.
You first reach Spitaalijärvi campfire site and accessible cooking shelter. The actual camping area and its campfire site are located further on, on the other side of the lake. Overnight stays in the cooking shelter are not allowed.
After the camping area, the trail begins to climb again towards the top of Lauhanvuori and the parking area.
