The Rokua mountain biking trails are marked in the terrain with brown mountain biking symbols and yellow paint markings. Trails can be accessed from the parking areas at Pookivaara, Pitkäjärvi, and Saarinen, or from near the Spa Hotel. Please make sure to follow the correct trail markings, as the mountain biking trails partly coincide with the hiking trails but also diverge from them at many points. Stay on the marked trails to protect the park's fragile nature and respect other visitors.
In addition to the longest trail circling the entire Rokua National Park, there are several shorter route options. If you ride the longest trail counter-clockwise, most of the forest road sections are encountered early on, while the most scenic path sections are towards the end. All sections can be ridden in either direction.
This trail description introduces various sections you can combine into a route of your choice.
From the Spa Hotel, the first approximately 5 kilometres follow an old forest road base to Kirvesjärvi campfire hut. Alternatively, you can head towards Lianjärvi along a wide and flat trail shared with pedestrians, about 1 kilometre. On this section, there are a few steep ascents and descents, as well as one crossing of the Rokuantie road. From Lianjärvi, it is possible to continue to Kirvesjärvi, which is about 2 kilometres away.
From Kirvesjärvi, the trail continues along a wide path through ridge terrain to the Keisarintie crossroads. From there, it follows a forest road for about 8.5 kilometres towards Pitkäjärvi and Rokuanjärvi. Halfway along this section, the trail makes a detour off the forest road into the terrain, returning to Keisarintie and the park boundary after about 2 kilometres.
Alternatively, from Kirvesjärvi you can continue towards Saarinen without riding along Keisarintie. About 2.7 kilometres after Kirvesjärvi, you reach a crossroads: right leads to Keisarintie, left towards Saarinen.
From the crossroads, it is about 0.7 kilometres to Saarinen. Between Kirvesjärvi and Saarinen, the mountain biking trail follows the same route as the longest hiking trail in Rokua, Keisarinkierros.
From Saarinen, you can continue along the biking trail to Pookivaara, about 3.5 kilometres partly along forest roads and partly on paths.
Following Keisarintie, the trail continues to the Rokuanjärvi campfire hut. Just under 2 kilometres before reaching Rokuanjärvi, there is an option for a detour to Pitkäjärvi along a wide and flat trail (distance about 0.8 kilometres), where there is also a campfire hut.
From Pitkäjärvi, you can continue towards Pookivaara along narrower paths. The trail towards Pookivaara features some steep climbs, and the distance from Pitkäjärvi is about 1.8 kilometres. Pookivaara and the southern parts of Rokua National Park are considered the highlights of the mountain biking trails.
From Rokuanjärvi, the trail continues on the northern side of the lake. About 1.3 kilometres from the campfire hut, the mountain biking trail branches off the Keisarinkierros hiking trail to the left. Shortly after, the trail splits into two directions: one leads towards Pookivaara and the other northwards towards Jaakonjärvi, approximately 5.2 kilometres away through varying terrain.
From Jaakonjärvi, the route continues for about 4.5 kilometres through dry pine forests and along old road bases back to the starting point near the Spa Hotel.
