The narrow forest trail leads through the old heath forest to the top of Palotunturi fell, where far-reaching landscapes open northwards. There is an open wilderness hut at the top of Palotunturi fell, which once served as a fire guard’s hut. The out-and-back hike is four kilometres in total.

There is no exact address for the starting point of the route. Navigators will direct you to the wrong place with the search word "Palotunturi". You can find the road leading to the starting point at: Lamminvaarantie, 97815 Posio.
The starting point has a small pull-off on the right side of the road, with parking space for 3-4 cars. There are wooden trail signs on the left side of the road, which say "Palotunturi" and "Autiotupa” (Wilderness Hut).

The narrow forest trail rises gently towards the summit of Palotunturi fell, passing Pikku Palotunturi fell, which stands out through the forest on the right side of the trail. The total rise on the trail is 100 metres.
In places, the trail has rootstocks and rocks and is wet in the vicinity of small mires and mire lakes. The trail is in the Mustarinnantunturi and Kiekkikaira Nature Reserve, so the trail runs in the middle of an old and atmospheric heath forest.
From the top of the Palotunturi fell (elevation 394 metres above sea level), a wide landscape opens in the middle of small, scrubby Siberian spruce (Picea obovata).
The trail descends along the same route back to the starting point.
