Lentohiekan lenkki is a pleasant hiking trail that leads through pine heaths and along the shores of Lake Oulujärvi. The trail starts at Säippä and follows a steep shoreline bank to Lentohiekka, where winds blowing from Lake Oulujärvi have carried fine sand deep into the forest. In mild weather, Lentohiekka is an inviting place for taking a rest and enjoying the scenery. From here the trail continues through a shady pine forest to Hautakaarre beach. The beach makes a pleasant route for returning to Säippä.

The trail starts from Säippä pier and follows the western shore of the island. The path leads very close to the edge of the bank, and in places the old trail has collapsed into the lake. Be careful when using the paths!
After walking for about a kilometre, you will arrive at Lentohiekka. This area was created as winds carried fine sand over a long period of time and built it up as a huge sand cake in the pine woods on top of the bank.
From Lentohiekka hikers head towards the inner parts of island along a wide, easy trail that leads to a sheep pen. Please remember to close the gates when passing through the sheep pen. Keep dogs on a leash and do not let them approach the sheep.
The trail continues along Säippä shoreline. On the way, there are rental huts designed by Eino Pitkänen and log cabins used by Metsähallitus.
