The trail begins at the Jääkärikämppä parking area located along Oravakankaantie. The address of the parking area is Oravakankaantie 581.
Walk about 0.6 km along Oravakankaantie to reach the hiking trail. From the parking area, you can also access the nearby day-use hut, Kivalon jääkärikämppä, which is approximately 0.3 km away.
After leaving Oravakankaantie, the trail to the Keski-Penikka nature tower continues as a nature path toward the Kivalo Open Wilderness Hut and the tower. The distance from the road to the hut is approximately 1.6 km.
At first, the path runs through forest and is easy to walk, but it becomes more demanding toward the end. The final stretch of about 0.5 km is particularly challenging, as the trail ascends through a boulder field toward the summit of Keski-Penikka. On this last section, trail markings are painted directly onto the rocks where no other marking options are available.
The return to the parking area follows the same route. The total length of the trail, including the return trip, is just under 4 km.
