Ahmankierros trail is suitable as a day hike for experienced outdoor enthusiasts, but you can also stay overnight at the cozy Ahmatupa. Ahmatupa is a two-part cabin with both an open wilderness hut and a rental hut. Those who book the rental hut also have access to a sauna. The trail alternates between mires, dense spruce forests, and lush edges of slope mires. Along the trail, there are four day-use huts where you can take a break. It’s worth taking a detour to the Ahmakallio observation tower, which adds 4.5 km to the route.

Starting point
National Park Entrance Gate - Annintupa
The trail starts from the main entrance of Syöte National Park. After the gate, Ahmankierros trail turns left and follows the same path as Naavaparran Polku trail and the Syötteen kierros circle trail – a mountain bike trail – for the first 1.5 km to Annintupa.
The path is quite wide and gravel-covered all the way to Annintupa. 50 meters before Annintupa, there are duckboards five planks wide. At Annintupa, the trail crosses the wide bridge over river Pärjänjoki.
Annintupa - Välitupa / Koiratupa intersection
After the bridge, the trail becomes more natural, with two-plank-wide duckboards and some rocky and root-filled sections. After walking for three kilometers, there is a junction where you can choose whether to hike the route clockwise or counterclockwise.
Välitupa / Koiratupa intersection - Välitupa
If you hike clockwise, you head towards Välitupa, which is a day-use hut. The trail from the junction to Välitupa is fairly easy.
Välitupa - Ylpiätupa
After Välitupa, the trail starts to ascend toward Ylpiätupa, which is 3.3 km away. Ylpiätupa is 100 meters higher than Välitupa.
Ylpiätupa - Ahmatupa
From Ylpiätupa, the trail continues as a narrow path over Selkävaara towards Ahmatupa. There are two sections of duckboards early on this stage.
100 meters before Ahmatupa, there is a junction where you turn left.
First, you pass the rental hut’s sauna and wood shed, along with the Ahmakota shelter, which is suitable for making fires. After this, you reach a small bridge over the Ahmapuro stream, where stairs lead up to the yard of Ahmatupa. The rental hut is on the left side of the building, and the open wilderness hut is on the right side.
If you want to visit the Ahmakallio observation tower, the hiking trail starts from the rental hut side of Ahmatupa.
Ahmatupa - Koiratupa
The Ahmankierros trail continues by returning to the junction and turning left toward Koiratupa.
The section from Ahmatupa to Koiratupa is quite rocky and rooty at first, but the surface evens out closer to Koiratupa.
Koiratupa - Välitupa / Koiratupa intersection
From Koiratupa, you continue towards Annintupa, and the trail returns to the Syöte Visitor Center the same way as it started.
