Vätsäri Wilderness Reserve is located in the municipality of Inari, east of Lake Inarijärvi. Regional road No 971 runs from Kaamanen via Näätämö to Norway (120 km), on the northern shore of Lake Inarijärvi. The villages of Partakko, Sevettijärvi and Näätämö are located along the road. South of the area can be accessed via the regional road No 969 from Ivalo to Nellim village. From Nellim the road continues towards Kessi, and becomes a forest road after the Paatsjoki bridge. The road ends shortly before Lake Kessijärvi.

Villages in the vicinity of the Wilderness Reserve are suitable for starting points of the excursion: Nellim, Sevettijärvi or Näätämö.
