Paddling in Vätsäri Wilderness Reserve

Lake Inarijärvi is a paddler’s dream destination, where the nearest roads are dozens of kilometres away. Large open water areas and rocky shores offer peace and quiet. Compared to hiking, paddling is also an easier way to get to know the rocky Vätsäri area.

In Lake Inarijärvi, paddlers must have excellent navigation skills, experience of travelling on waters and special caution, as the lake is large and conditions can rapidly turn from a sunny summer day into stormy waves.

Nellim’s water trail south of Vätsäri Wilderness Reserve is an excellent day trip destination for canoers. The start and end points of the trail are located near Nellim village and its services. The trail runs close to settlement, but it still has a wilderness atmosphere. There is little settlement on the shores. The shoreline forests are in their natural state and the waters are clear.
