Vätsäri is a wilderness where you choose your own route. Hiking in Vätsäri requires good wilderness skills, as most of the area is in a remote zone where hiking services are scarcely available. There are only a few wilderness huts.

The conditions in Vätsäri are arctic, which requires special features of the equipment. Summer only arrives in mid-June, and permanent snow cover often comes already in October. When wilderness skills and equipment are in order, hikers can enjoy the peace and quiet of the wilderness in the barren pine forests, as well as the surprises of Vätsäri fell plateau.

Hiking in Vätsäri is extremely demanding due to rocky and detailed terrain. Those hiking in the area should be aware that there may be inaccuracies in the area maps.
