The hiking trails in Tiilikkajärvi National Park dry up at different times

04/16/2025

Floods, lingering snow, and thawing ground affect hiking in Tiilikkajärvi well into spring. It is usually advisable to head to the Pumpulikirkko trail only at the end of May or early June, when the last snow has melted and the Konttipuro flood has subsided.

Floods at trails

The Uiton kierto is the most popular trail in Tiilikkajärvi National Park. The trail runs through swamps, drier forest ridges, and eskers. The swamp sections are planked. They do not flood very easily, except for the shoreline forests near the Uiton cabin. There, the delta between Autiojärvi and Tiilikka floods over the planks most springs, but usually for a very short time. We recommend preparing for the hike with rubber boots and being ready for the possibility that you may not be able to complete the entire Uiton kierto, but will have to turn back at the delta, halfway through the route.

There is still snow on the Pumpulikirkko trail. We recommend avoiding the trail until the terrain dries sufficiently, usually in late May or early June. This also helps protect the sensitive terrain from wear.
