Good to know:

• The starting point of Palotunturi fell cannot be reached by car during the snow season from November to the beginning of June, as the boom on Lamminvaarantie road is closed in winter, and there is no winter maintenance on the road.
• Lamminvaarantie road is a single-lane forest road with blind spots and some frost damage in places. Avoid driving on the road during the frost heaving season, between April and May.
• Check the driving instructions below. Google Maps and navigators do not direct to the correct starting point with the search term "Palotunturi".
• Follow the Lamminvaarantie road for 8km, until you reach the starting point of the Palotunturi Trail, where there is a small pull-off on the right and wooden trail signs on the left. The signs say "Palotunturi" and "Autiotupa” (Wilderness Hut).
• The pull-off has parking space for 3-4 cars.

From Posio

From the centre of Posio, the journey takes about half an hour and is 34 kilometres to the starting point of the Palotunturi Trail.
Driving Instructions: From the centre of Posio, drive the Posio-Rovaniemi road (no. 81) for approximately 25km. Turn right onto Lamminvaarantie road at the intersection with the sign “Lamminvaara”.

From Rovaniemi

The distance from the centre of Rovaniemi to the Palotunturi starting point is approximately 115km.
Driving Instructions: Drive the Rovaniemi-Posio road (no. 81) for approximately 108km. Turn left onto Lamminvaarantie road at the intersection with the sign “Lamminvaara”.
