Palotunturi area offers fantastic opportunities for birdwatchers to see the species of old-growth forests, from Siberian jays (Perisoreus infaustus) to Red-flanked bluetails (Tarsiger cyanurus). Old-growth forests and mires also attract more timid species, such as several species of cavity nesters.
