The landscapes of Paistunturi Wilderness Reserve are dominated by fell uplands. The lush mountain birch groves in river valleys stand in sharp contrast to the barren, treeless fells. Kevo, the largest nature reserve in Finland, divides Paistunturi Wilderness Reserve into two halves. The wilderness is an ideal destination for experienced hikers.

Natural Features of the Paistunturi Wilderness Reserve
The southern parts of Paistunturi Wilderness Reserve are dominated by large mires and lakes rich in fish, while fell uplands rise in the north. The Reserve has a rich plant and animal life.

- Everyman’s Right apply in the wilderness areaEveryone’s rights apply in the Wilderness Reserve. However, please note that you are close to Kevo Strict Nature Reserve. Very strict rules apply in the Nature Reserve Reserve, for instance to access and camping.
- Temporary camping in the area is allowedTemporary camping with Everyman’s Right is allowed, except for parking areas. You can stay overnight in motorhomes in the parking area.
- Making campfire is allowed in the terrainIf a designated campfire site is available within 500 meters, you must use the site for making a fire and not create a new campfire site. Collecting fallen tree branches and twigs for your fire is fine.
- Always keep pets on a leashDog waste should be cleaned away from the paths.
- Be prepared for areas with limited or no mobile network coverageRemember to take a paper map and compass.
- Take the Sámi cultural environment into considerationBe respectful and do not damage the sacred sites of the Sámi people.
