Respect nature and reindeer herding – do not disturb reindeer, and always close gates in reindeer fences. Pets must be kept on a leash. Working dogs may be off-leash during herding or hunting.

**Making Fire** Making open fires is allowed under Metsähallitus’ general permit, but: Use only dry twigs and branches found on the ground. If there is a maintained fireplace nearby (within 500 m), use it. Avoid making fires in sparsely wooded areas. Camping stoves are not allowed inside huts; twig stoves are prohibited during forest fire warnings. Fire-making is prohibited during warnings, even at designated fireplaces. **Leave No Trace** There are no waste bins – take all your trash with you. Biodegradable waste can be placed in dry toilets. Clean paper and cardboard can be used as fire starters. Do not burn plastic or aluminum – they release toxic gases and leave waste.

**Fishing** Angling and ice fishing are allowed in lakes and ponds under Everyman's Rights. Fishing in rivers and special waters requires a permit. Lure fishing in lakes with one rod is allowed, but those aged 18–69 must pay the fisheries management fee. Lure fishing in rivers also requires a separate rod permit. **Berries and Mushrooms** Picking berries and mushrooms is allowed.

**Permits for Special Activities** Activities beyond Everyman's Rights (e.g., research, events, filming) require a permit from Metsähallitus. Business activities on state land are subject to fees and require an agreement. More info: metsa.fi

**Safety and Preparation** Inform someone of your route and schedule – and let them know when you return. Avoid hiking alone – a companion is crucial in emergencies.

**Mobile Coverage** There are coverage gaps in the area. Check with your operator. If no signal: Move to higher or more open ground Remove SIM card for emergency calls Keep your phone warm – some models fail in cold

**In Emergency – Call 112** If you are in danger or spot a wildfire, call 112 and report the emergency. Rescue services operate via the emergency center – stay in coverage area.
