Miekojärvi is located to the south of Rovaniemi-Pello road (no. 83). There are parking areas as well as marinas and fishing harbours at the northern end of the lake at Sirkkakoski and at the southern end at Pessalompolo. Parking is also possible at Mäntylaki boat launching site on the eastern side of the lake as well as at the Karhumaa boat launching site on its western side. There is a parking area for the trail to Pieskänjupukka viewing point on Pakisjärventie road. The parking areas do not have more detailed address information.

From Rovaniemi: drive in the direction of Pello along road 83.

• The distance from Rovaniemi to Pessalompolo is around 80 km. Drive along road 83 in the direction of Pello. At Raanujärvi, turn to road 932 towards Aavasaksa. The distance from the crossroads to Pessalompolo is around 27 km.
• The distance from Rovaniemi to Sirkkakoski is around 77 km. Drive along road 83 in the direction of Pello. Turn off this road before Lampsijärvi and continue on for about 9 km to Sirkkakoski marina and fishing harbour.

The distance from Pello to Sirkkakoski is around 30 km. First drive along the Rovaniemi - Pello road (no. 83) for around 18 km. From this road, take a turn towards Sirkkakoski at Lankojärvi and continue for around 12 km, following the signs to the harbour..

From Ylitornio, the area can be reached from the Aavasaksa - Raanujärvi road (no. 932). The distance from Ylitornio to Pessalompolo is around 45 km.

You can reach different parts of the lake along forest roads in summer. Only some of the roads are kept open in winter.
