Lake Miekojärvi has several natural beaches with excellent possibilities for swimming. Almost all lean-to shelters on the lake shore have swimming beaches nearby. The largest beach is located at Orhinselänniemi. Alinen Venäläisenhieta is an easily accessed beach that can be found on the western shore of Lake Miekojärvi a few kilometres south of Pieskänjupukka. However, there is no official swimming area.

Visitors to Miekojärvi area can freely pick berries and mushrooms. For example, blueberries and lingonberries are plentiful here.

Local residents have a right to hunt around Miekojärvi under section 8 of the Hunting Act.
Others can purchase in Metsähallitus' Eräluvat service hunting permits for small game that are valid in two permit areas on state-owned lands: Pello 2606 (eraluvat.fi) and Ylitornio 2609 (eraluvat.fi).
