Hiking in Miekojärvi

Miekojärvi offers many kinds of hiking opportunities for the whole family by its beautiful shores and in the magnificent lake landscapes. The easiest way to access some of the trails is by boat. For picnics, there are lean-to shelters and other hiking structures on the shores.

On Vaarasaari, the largest island of the lake, there is a circle trail for hiking, and on the eastern side of the lake in Raakonvaara, trails leading to the scenic Orhinselänniemi Beach can be found. From Orhinselänniemi boat dock, a wide and accessible duckboard path takes visitors to the shore. On the western side of the lake, a trail leads to the viewing point on top of Pieskänjupukka.

There are also some interesting and scenic day trails nearby, close to the Pello-Rovaniemi road (road 83); Jaipaljukka nature trail is located at approx. 9 km from Pello towards Rovaniemi, and Eeron Polku trail maintained by the municipality of Pello can be found near Lake Lankojärvi.
