Birdwatching
- Birds can be observed, for example, from the towers located on the summit of Keski-Penikka and along the Martimoaapa Nature Trail. The towers are situated along the trails and are easily accessible.
- There is almost hundred bird species nesting there. You might spot an arctic loon (Gavia arctica), the red-throated diver (Gavia stellata), or a common crane (Grus grus). The area’s diverse population of birds of prey includes the Eurasian buzzard (Buteo buteo), Northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), Western honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus), hen harrier (Circus cyaneus), Northern hobby (Falco subbuteo), Merlin (Falco columbarius) and common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). Owls and tetraonids are also abundant in Martimoaapa.
