Tour skating and the winter trail

Glide across Linnansaari in the winter on Nordic skates! The routes from Oravi to Linnansaari (approx. 5 km) and from Porosalmi on the other side of the lake to Kaarnetsaari (approx. 3 km) are opened when conditions allow. In early spring – if the ice situation is favourable – the section linking the routes Linnansaari-Kaarnetsaari will also be opened, allowing you to glide along a maintained natural ice track across Lake Haukivesi!

From Oravi to Linnansaari and on to Porosalmi, there is a maintained winter hiking trail running alongside the skating trail (https://oravivillage.com/fi). The marked trail can be travelled on foot, skiing, biking, snowmobile or sledge.

  • Walking, cross-country skiing and mountain biking on the winter hiking trail is free of charge.
  • Skating and kicksledding on a maintained skating route is subject to a fee.
  • The Journal (https://www.oravivillage.com/fi) and Facebook page provide up-to-date information on the condition of the route. You can pay the trail fee in Oravi and Järvisydän (https://www.jarvisydan.com/). The fee also includes equipment rental.
  • Depending on your direction of arrival, you can enjoy a cozy snack break at:
    • Sammakkoniemi campfire site
(Oravi – Sammakkoniemi 5 km, Järvisydän – Sammakkoniemi 13 km), or
    • Pieni Lappi campfire site
(Järvisydän – Pieni Lappi 3 km, Oravi – Pieni Lappi 15 km).
