Hiking services

Leivonmäki National Park offers a wide range of services for both day hikers and those planning longer trips. The area includes campfire sites, an accessible cooking shelter, lean-to shelters, camping areas, and dry toilets.

Campsites

  • Rest areas are shared resting places, please be considerate of other hikers.
  • There is no waste management at rest areas, take your trash with you.
  • Making a fire is only allowed at maintained and designated fire sites.
  • Please note that when the wildfire warning is in effect, fire lighting is allowed only in the campfire site of Harjujärvi cooking shelter, that has a flue.
  • Firewood is available at fire sites. Remember, you may need to chop the wood yourself. Use the wood sparingly.
  • Do not burn trash or peel bark from living trees. Small amounts of clean paper and cardboard can be used as kindling.
  • The last person to leave the fire site is always responsible for extinguishing the fire.

Drinking water

  • The surface water from the lakes, rivers and brooks must be boiled before use. Water in the springs and running water in the brooks is usually good for drinking. However, the quality of the water cannot be monitored, so the use of natural water is at your own risk.
  • Do not wash dishes or bathe directly in water bodies or on the well cover.
  • Remember to absorb used wash water into the ground at a sufficient distance from water bodies or water points.

Toilets

  • Remember to bring your own toilet paper.
  • Check the instructions for using the toilet provided at the campsite.

Waste disposal

  • Take your rubbish home, do not burn it.
  • Remember to bring some rubbish bags when you go out.
  • Do not throw food waste out in the forest.
