You can admire the magnificent archipelago landscape scattered across open waters by following the well-known Heinävesi route and its numerous canals. The passage through Heinävesi from Savonlinna to Kuopio is considered one of Finland’s most beautiful waterways. Kermajärvi is a nationally valuable landscape area and nature reserve.

Kermajärvi is an good fishing destination. Professional fishing is also practised there. The fish species in the area include e.g. vendace and trout.
A ski trail crosses the ice of Lake Kermajärvi from Heinävesi to Karvio.
