When to visit Repovesi National Park?
Despite its remote location, Repovesi National Park is an easy-to-reach nature destination year-round. It attracts hikers of all ages and is also suitable for beginners, including walkers and paddlers. Here are some tips on when to visit and what to keep in mind.

Spring (March - May)
Why visit: In spring, brooks start babbling, the cliffs warm up in the sun, and black-throated divers return from the south. From spring to late autumn, the park is also easy to reach by public transport.
Crowds: Spring is mostly quiet, but May is the season for school groups. Especially around Lapinsalmi and on the Ketunlenkki Trail, it can be busy at times when coachloads of pupils arrive for a day out. At weekends, you may also meet outdoor course groups, Scouts and other groups at rest sites and camping sites.
Weather conditions: The arrival of spring varies from year to year. After mild winters with little snow, the terrain may be dry already in March. Wildfire warnings can be issued early even if there is still snow in shaded spots. Repovesi usually does not experience flooding that would affect hiking.

Summer (May - September)
Why visit: Midsummer is the busiest time for hiking. The 26 km Kaakkurinkierros Trail attracts walkers, and Olhava Cliff draws climbers. Repovesi is also an easy and scenic paddling destination.
Crowds: The peak season falls between Midsummer and early August. There are hikers on the trails from morning to evening, and many people spend the night in the park.
Weather conditions: The elevation differences can be demanding, especially in hot weather. Although there are wells for drinking water in the area, it is still worth carrying enough water with you. There are plenty of lakes for a refreshing dip, but there is no official beach.

Autumn (September - December)
Why visit: Repovesi has several high cliffs and a viewing tower from which to admire the autumn scenery. Mushroom pickers may want to stop by to look for funnel chanterelles and other edible mushrooms.
Crowds: The busiest times are on weekends around late September and early October, and around midday (10.00–14.00) when the weather is fine and the autumn colours are at their best. On weekdays, various groups are out and about.
Weather conditions: Stones, cliffs and tree roots on the trails can be very slippery after rain as well as after frost. Pack a torch in case you are caught by darkness, as there is no lighting on the park’s trails or in the car parks. The Ketunlossi cable ferry is secured to the shore when night-time temperatures stay below freezing. After that, the Ketunlenkki Trail can no longer be completed as a circular route.

Winter (December - February)
Why visit: Winter is a peaceful time for outdoor visitors. In snowy winters, Repovesi is an excellent destination for snowshoeing. On calm late-winter evenings, you might even hear owls calling.
Crowds: Winter is quiet, but people hike in Repovesi throughout the season.
Weather conditions: Many trails remain compacted, but there is no winter maintenance. Be prepared for both icy conditions and trails drifted over by snow. Do not attempt to cross Kapiavesi on the ice, as there are strong and changing currents that weaken the ice.
