Vilkaharju is a longitudinal ridge, about 4 km long, which offers an excellent setting for admiring the ridge nature and hiking. Vilkaharju has a two-part nature trail, the first part of which is about 3.1 km long and the second part about 3.6 km. The nature trail is signposted and marked with yellow markers on the trees. Along the trail there is a Neolithic settlement, rock shelters, settlement boulders and World War II armoured roads belonging to the Salpa Line. The nature trail can also be accessed from Sulkava church village. The connecting path starts from the Kuumienkivientie, near an apartment building. It is marked with red and yellow spots.
On the trail you can admire the ridge forest and spot alder, golden eagle and grey warbler. There are also the remains of a Stone Age settlement and the remains of a World War II armoured barrier on the Salpa Line. Finally, you can rest and enjoy a picnic lunch in the Toivotuksenlahti lodge and, in summer, take a dip in the Saimaa. Vilkaharju is a nature reserve, so no fires, camping or other camping is allowed.
