The Topeliuksen polku Trail is classified as demanding accessible. The trail follows a roadbed and a durable path, rolling gently through magnificent esker and shoreline landscapes across the Punkaharju national landscape. The trail is easy to hike, and there are benches for resting along the way as well as a campsite with picnic tables. Cycling is also allowed on the trail. The Topeliuksen polku Trail is lit and also used in the winter. Still, there is no actual winter maintenance on the trail.

Trail markings: Wooden signposts with the text “Topeliuksen polku” or a white arrow. Most of the trail is also part of the Harjureitistö trail system, and this section of the trail also has painted orange trail markers on trees.
Starting point at the end of the Tuunaansalmi Sound: Nearest address and parking area: Harjutie 597, Savonlinna (road no. 4792). The trail is a back-and-forth route whose starting points are located on the Tuunaansalmi pedestrian and cycle path, coordinates: WGS84 - lat: 61° 48.221' lon: 29° 18.211', ETRS-TM35FIN - P: 6854461 I: 621410 and by the Vaahersalo Bridge, at the edge of the plot of Hotel Kruunupuisto terraced houses, coordinates: WGS84 - lat: 61° 47.297' lon: 29° 183985', ETRS-TM35FIN - P: 6852754 I: 621635.
You must watch out for other traffic on the trail. Visibility is sometimes poor, and you might encounter cyclists moving at high speed. There is also occasional car traffic at the beginning of the trail.
The distance from the Harjutie parking area to the starting point of the trail is approximately 350 metres. Go along the Harjutie Road for about 100 metres towards road no. 14 and then turn left to the Laivalaiturintie Road just before the T-junction. The Laivalaiturintie Road curves to the left, and the Topeliuksen polku Trail starts at the junction about 250 metres away.
You will travel the first 500 metres along an asphalt road and then on a gravel-based road.
After 500 metres, turns left in the direction indicated by a wooden arrow sign.
At around halfway, the trail crosses a stream via a flat and short wooden bridge.
There is an accessible campsite by the trail when arriving at the Valkialampi Isthmus.
Here, the route becomes gravel-based again. Continue forward for just over 600 metres.
The section along the road – and the Topeliuksen polku Trail – ends at the Kruunupuisto terraced houses. You can go around the boom at the end point and continue toward Hotel Kruunupuisto.

From the parking area marked on the map, you can access a trail that joins the Topeliuksen polku Trail by crossing the road. The trail leads downhill by the hotel, towards the shore and ultimately goes under the Vaahersalontie road. From the parking area, you can also select a trail on the Takaharju Esker, which will join the Topeliuksen polku Trail later.
In addition to the campsite on the Valkialampi Isthmus, there are five benches for resting along the trail.
The Topeliuksen polku Trail is illuminated, making it easy to follow even in the dark.
The trail is regularly treaded flat during the snowy season, but there is no official winter maintenance.
