The best part of the trail around Lake Suomunjärvi is the wilderness scenery. The lake peeks through the old coniferous forest from time to time. Occasionally, the trail leads right to the lake's shore, where the silky fine light sand invites you to sit down or wade into the cool water.

The Arkkusalmi Bridge has been opened, and the Suomunkierto Trail is once again accessible

Located along the Suomunkierto Trail in Patvinsuo National Park, the Arkkusalmi Bridge has now been reopened. The old, deteriorated bridge was dismantled in winter 2024-25 and has been completely rebuilt.

  • Water pointWell at the Suomu campfire site.
  • Camping permittedCamping is only permitted in the immediate vicinity of marked rest areas and campfire sites and huts.
  • Campfire siteMaking a fire during a forest fire warning is strictly prohibited. The ban does not apply to the cooking shelters at the Suomu camp site and Kurkilahti parking area.
  • HutReservation and rental huts at Suomu.
