The best part of the trail around Lake Suomunjärvi is the wilderness scenery. The lake peeks through the old coniferous forest from time to time. Occasionally, the trail leads right to the lake's shore, where the silky fine light sand invites you to sit down or wade into the cool water.
The Arkkusalmi Bridge has been opened, and the Suomunkierto Trail is once again accessible
Located along the Suomunkierto Trail in Patvinsuo National Park, the Arkkusalmi Bridge has now been reopened. The old, deteriorated bridge was dismantled in winter 2024-25 and has been completely rebuilt.

Suomunkierto Circle Trail leads around the wilderness-like and sandy shored Lake Suomunjärvi. The trail leads through level landscape; only one hill along the trail is steep. The dampest spots have duckboards and Virtasalmi Sound has a bridge across it.
