Come and enjoy world heritage landscapes. In addition to the marine landscapes, you can spot signs of the Finnish Defence Forces’ activities, a geologically interesting giant’s kettle and the cultural landscape of the archipelago with its stone walls along the Sommarö Thematic Trail. The trail network consists of two circle trails and a back-and-forth trail that branches off, leading to the Södra Vallgrund Beach in Sommarösund past the giant’s kettle and cultural landscapes. The overall length of the trail is approximately eight kilometres. The first of the circle trails is 1.5 kilometres long, and the section that goes around the Hålören Peninsula is one kilometre long. There are campfire sites, lean-to shelters, dry toilets, thematic trail boards and a viewpoint along the trail. The rentable Sommarö maintenance hut is also located by the trail. The trail (1.5 kilometres) runs around the Ängesholmlampi Pond and continues down to the seashore. You can also take the longer trail leading also to the Södra Vallgrund Beach, Sommarösund.
From the parking area, first take the road to the Sommarö maintenance hut, from where you turn onto the trail. There are two free-to-use lean-to shelters available in the yard of the maintenance hut. There is a junction at the beginning of the trail, from where you can turn right towards the trail around the Ängesholmlampi Pond. If you choose to turn left, the trail descends to the seashore after the rocky areas, from where you can continue around the Hålören Peninsula.
The trail around the Ängesholmen Pond runs through an old-growth spruce forest. On the shore, you arrive to an intersection, from where you can continue onto the trail around the Hålören Peninsula. You can go around the peninsula on a gravel road. There is a viewpoint at the tip of the peninsula, and a campfire site, a lean-to shelter and a pier along the trail.
From the Hålören Peninsula, you will return to the original trail, which passes by a young aspen forest and climbs to the rocky areas and descends to a small mire. The trail ends in the Sommarö maintenance hut’s yard.
From the Hålören Peninsula, you can also continue along the gravel road back to the Sommarö maintenance hut and further to the parking area.
If you choose the longer trail, the section leading to the Södra Vallgrund Beach in Sommarösund branches off near the pond. There is a giant’s kettle and sandy roads by the trail, with stone walls on both sides.
From the beach, you can return to the parking area the same way or go around the Ängesholm Pond.
