The Sallivaara summer hiking trail leads to the historic Sallivaara reindeer roundup site. The trail passes through a varied landscape of forest and mire. It starts from Repojoki, at a parking area along the Inari–Kittilä road, and heads toward the Sallivaara reindeer roundup site. The terrain is mostly flat, with no major elevation changes. Duckboards have been installed over the wet sections, though water may rise over them in some places. The return from Sallivaara follows the same path. Due to the wetland sections, rubber boots are recommended for this trail.

The trail begins at the Repojoki parking area and initially passes through relatively flat birch and pine forest. Parts of the trail are covered with duckboards, which may be slippery, especially in wet conditions.
After about 1.5 kilometers, the trail crosses the Pajuoja stream via a bridge, soon reaching the Sallivuoma mire. The mire is crossed using wide ATV duckboards.
After crossing Sallivuoma, the trail continues through the pine forest of Saarimaa. This section has some elevation changes, but they are gentle. The path is occasionally rooty but generally easy to walk.
After Saarimaa, a narrow wetland is crossed on wide duckboards before reaching the pine forest terrain of Sallivaara.
At the historic reindeer roundup site, there is a wilderness hut, a day-use hut, and museum cabins. A trail behind the wilderness hut leads to the summit of Sallivaara. This path is rocky and steep in places, with an elevation gain of 60 meters over a distance of 600 meters.
The return from Sallivaara follows the same route as the way in.
