The rapids remain frozen even in winter, and therefore the Partiomaja trail offers something to experience all year round. The campfire spots along the trail are the best places to enjoy watching the flowing water, and the renewed structures of the route create a good setting for an atmospheric nature trip.

The Partiomaja nature trail is a circular route that winds through the forest along the Konnevesi rapids route, passing Taikinainen and Karinkoski before reaching the scout lodge. The rapids remain unfrozen even in winter, making the Partiomaja nature trail an experience year-round. The campfire sites along the trail offer the best spots to enjoy the view of the flowing water, and the newly renovated structures provide a great setting for a cozy nature hike. The Partiomaja nature trail starts at the end of the forest road that joins Autiolahdentie, about five kilometers from the town center. There is a parking area and an information board at the starting point. A bus can also turn around in the parking area.
The trail is marked with signposts, and from the starting point, it is 800 meters to Taikinainen and 1.6 km to the scout lodge according to the signs. The recommended direction of the trail is counterclockwise. From the starting point, it is about 300 meters to the first trail junction. Turn right there and continue for 300 meters, then turn right again at the second junction and continue for just over 100 meters to Taikinainen rapids. From the shore of Taikinainen rapids, the trail returns to the previous junction and continues to the right towards Karinkoski. Follow the trail along the shoreline for about 160 meters to reach the Karinkoski lean-to viewpoint.
The Karinkoski lean-to is like a theater audience. Nature puts on its own show on the river every day. The unfrozen rapids are favored by wintering waterfowl. Among others, dippers winter in the area. Karinkoski has a lean-to, a campfire site, an outhouse, and a firewood storage.
The scout lodge yard and the second rest stop on the trail are located just over half a kilometer from the Karinkoski lean-to. The covered campfire area at the scout lodge is open for public use. Scouts rent out a small, cozy cabin and shed. Firewood supply and the outhouse are also shared facilities. From the scout lodge, it is about 560 meters back to the starting point.
