The Könkäänvaara Trail takes you to the top of the Könkäänvaara Hill, which is surrounded by old pines. The trail is both narrow and rocky and can pose challenges to a hiker but the rugged forest landscape bring peace to your mind. You can take the trail as a circular route or as a hike between the Makialampi and Vaattunkiköngäs parking areas. It is recommended that you wear ankle-support footwear and you should also note that the rocks, boulders and roots may be extremely slippery when wet or frosty. There are no campsite structures along the trail.

The Könkäänvaara Trail connects the Makialampi and Vaattunkiköngäs parking areas and you can start at either point. The route description starts from the Makialampi parking area.
The trail is marked with wooden posts with orange colour markings. The markings on the trail are unclear in places. The medium level trail runs at the top of Könkäänvaara Hill in rocky terrain, which means that it may be slippery during rainy weather.
The trail starts from the right side of the Makialampi parking area. For the first 300 metres, the narrow trail ascends gently on the hillside until you arrive at the first junction where the Könkäänvaara Trail branches in two directions.
At the junction, turn to the right towards the top of the Könkäänvaara Hill. The narrow trail runs for about 550 metres in rocky forest terrain, gently climbing and descending before you take the final climb to the top of the hill. Impressive old-growth pines characterise the highest point of the hill.
From the top, the trail descends gently for about 400 metres through a forest until it reaches the next junction.
To the left of the junction, the trail returns to the starting point at the Makialampi parking area along the forest-covered edges of the hill. The distance back to the parking area is about 750 metres and the total length of the trail is about two kilometres.
When turning right at the junction, you can continue to the Vaattunkiköngäs parking area, which is about 1.4 kilometres away. The length of the trail between Makialampi and Vaattunkiköngäs is thus about 2.7 kilometres in one direction.
At first, the trail descends through a rocky forest, after which it reaches a slightly more dense and younger forest.
The rest of the trail meanders in flat forest terrain until you reach the Vaattunkiköngäs parking area.
