Starting point: Behind the sauna at Jussarö harbour
Right at its start, the trail passes over a sheep fence.
The trail crosses the meadow and passes by Kullakojan, a 19th century pilot’s cottage.
After the meadow, the trail enters a forest. At the beginning of the forest section, the trail passes old open-pit mines, with the remains of mining operations dating back to the mid-19th century.
The trail is flat in the old-growth forest, which has trees over 100 years old - this is extremely rare in the archipelago.
After this, the trail climbs to the top of Lotsstugeberget rock, which has a lookout tower. Pilots once stood here to watch the sea.
After the lookout tower, the trail descends to the old mining area. Here you will find large mining structures from the 1950s.
The trail continues past the mining structures down to Iron Beach. The beach was created as a by-product of mining operations. After the iron ore was extracted, the remaining mine tailings and black sand was left on the shore, hence its name, Iron Beach.
The trail continues along shoreline rocks to Österfladan. Then it climbs back to the old sand road. The trail passes an apartment block where miners once lived. Since that time, the Finnish Defence Forces have held urban warfare exercises in this area.
End point: Jussarö harbour
