The first part of the trail is easy all the way to the former Lortikka loggers’ cabin. Today, the cabin serves as a rental hut, so please do not enter the hut grounds if it is occupied. Trail markings: red triangles.
A campfire site and toilet for all visitors are found at the southern end of Lortikka pond.
From Lortikka to Vahterjärvi and on to Kalalahti, you walk through rocky and rugged forest terrain typical of Isojärvi. The trail is challenging, and you should allow enough time for your walk.
At Vahterjärvi, you can choose to hike the Savottapolku trail, which is marked with white diamonds. This will give you a total distance of approx. 20 km and take 8 to 10 hours.
Kalalahti has a lean-to shelter at the campfire site, and there are rowboats available for rent at the shore.
The lean-to shelters of Vahterjärvi and Kalalahti are ideal for rest stops.
