Miia Mäkinen’s Art Exhibition And a Clink of a Bell is Heard in the Landscape at Meän Galleria

In my art, I seek out the fleeting moments and emotions in nature.

Outdoors, something is always happening—whether unseen or right before one's eyes.

It is important to breathe and sense one's surroundings—to let nature wash over you even as
you trudge toward your daily obligations.

Too rarely do we find time to pause and marvel, yet even a fleeting moment brings relief; it
calms the body and grounds us.

For several years, the central theme of my work has been a celebration of nature, titled
"Crowns of Nature". This theme explores the diverse nature of Lapland, its fragility, and the
importance of nature conservation.

My works do not necessarily wear their activist roots on their sleeve; instead, they pulse with
their message through visual expression. Through my art, I aim to convey joy, a sense of
security, and a community spirit rooted in nature conservation.

And a Clink of a Bell is heard in the Landscape is an art exhibition by Rovaniemi-based visual artist
Miia Mäkinen (MA), featuring watercolours and art-crafts. These vibrant works capture moments and
memories from the heart of nature that have left an impression on the artist. The dreamlike and
playful visual language of Mäkinen’s work emerges from an intuitive creative process, without a
predetermined outcome. As an artist, she is driven by the desire to address important issues and
engage in societal discourse through her art. Her work is grounded in values of social, cultural, and
ecological sustainability. Mäkinen employs a diverse range of materials and methods in her artistic
expression, including watercolour painting, handicrafts, installation art, and snow and ice art. She is a
member of the Artists’ Association of Lapland and the Cultural Association Valsa ry, and belongs to
various art collectives.
