The official starting and ending point of the Karhunkierros Trail will be relocated from Ruka Village to Saarua in Eastern Ruka before the start of the hiking season, in late May 2026.
Previously, the Karhunkierros Trail ended to the west of Ruka Village and passed through the Ruka ski area. The area is under continuous development, and the current trail alignment poses challenges for hiking safety and visitor guidance, particularly in the ski area and at intersections with biking routes.
By moving the trail’s starting point to Saarua, the safety and clarity of the route will improve. In the future, the Karhunkierros Trail will end at the Saarua parking area. As a result, the official total length of the hiking trail will be shortened by approximately one kilometre and will be 81 kilometres in total.
Ruka Ski Resort will designate a new walking route across the ski area, so the change will not significantly affect hiking along the trail.
The map and route description will be updated on the Luontoon.fi website during May. We will inform visitors once the update has been completed and provide more detailed information on the schedule of the trail change.
