Drinking water
- It is recommended to boil natural water before using it as drinking water.
- Do not wash dishes or bathe directly in the water bodies or on the well cover.
- Remember to absorb the used wash water into the ground sufficiently far from water bodies or water points.

Waste disposal
- Do not burn trash, take it with you.

Camping
- There are no designated camping areas in the wilderness area, but you can camp under everyman's right.
- When camping, consider other campers and overnight guests. They may be tired from their day's hikes and want to enjoy the peace of nature.
Huts
- The wilderness hut is a shared and free resting and overnight place for independent hikers.
- The reservable hut is a shared overnight place where you can book a paid bed for 1-2 nights.

Murhahaara Open Wilderness Hut
A modest open wilderness hut is available year-round. The hut is located in the northern part of Salla, in the area of Murhahaara (which is the easternmost headwater fork of River Värriöjoki), in the Tuntsa Wilderness Reserve. The open wilderness hut is a shared and free resting and overnight place for independent hikers (not for companies). You can stay in wilderness huts for one or two nights without a reservation. Be prepared for the possibility that there may not be enough space to sleep in the hut. Facilities: - Sleeping places for 6. - Heating with a stove. Gas stove for cooking. - No drinking water point. Water from natural sources must be purified before drinking. - No waste management. Take your own waste out of the area. - Bring your own cooking utensils. - Pets are allowed in the hut only with the consent of other users.
Härkätunturi open wilderness and shared rental hut
Härkätunturi is a modest hut with an open wilderness hut at one end, and a shared rental hut at the other. The hut is situated in Tuntsa Wilderness Reserve, between Härkätunturi Fell and Härkätunturinmurustat Fell, along the UKK Trail (summer trail). In winter there is no marked trail to the hut. The hut is suitable for independent hikers with good navigation skills and is accessible only by foot in the summer or with skis in the winter. An open wilderness hut is a shared and free overnight place for 1-2 nights (not for commercial use).A shared rental hut is a reservable place for an overnight stay where you can book a paid bed. Facilities in the open wilderness hut: * Sleeping platform in two levels, room for maximum 10 persons. Mattresses. Bring your own sleeping bag. * Wood stove for heating. * Gas stove for cooking. Bring your own cooking utensils. * In the yard, there is a sauna (sauna fee must be paid before use). * No drinking water point. Water from natural sources must be purified before drinking. * No waste management. Take your own waste out of the area. * Pets are allowed in the open wilderness hut in case other visitors agree with it.
