Canoeing, rowing and SUP-boarding

Two kayaks on a body of water, presumably a lake or calm river. One yellow kayak has an individual wearing a life vest sitting in it, facing away from the camera towards the horizon. The other kayak is red and partially visible in the foreground on the right side of the image. The water is calm with light ripples, and there are trees visible in the distance under a clear sky.

Canoes, kayaks, row boats and SUP-boards are available for rent by the lake and sea.

Geocaching

Geocaching is possible in the national park.

Pick berries and mushrooms

A basket with mushrooms has been placed on the ground, where more mushrooms are growing. The scene is set in a forest, with green plants covering the ground.

You can indulge your taste buds with bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus), lingonberries (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) and raspberries (Rubus idaeus), as well as edible mushrooms.

Snowshoeing

An individual snowshoeing in a winter landscape, surrounded by trees. They are equipped with snowshoes and poles, navigating through the snowy terrain.

Snowshoes are an excellent option in winter. During snowy winters, you can go snowshoeing on the trails of the national park. Snowshoes can be hired from the local ski resort, and guided snowshoeing tours are available.

Skiing

There are no dedicated cross-country ski tracks in the national park, but visitors can make their own tracks on frozen lakes, among others.

Nordic skating

There are no ploughed Nordic skating trails, but you can try skating on frozen lakes when the weather permits.

Sailing and boating

Mathildedal harbour (2 km from the Nature Centre) is accessible by motor and sailboat. Services available.

Orienteering

A fixed orienteering trail for families with children (2-3 km, 10 fixed control points) in the environs of the Lake Matildanjärvi. The control point flags can be found using a map and compass. Maps are for sale at the Teijo Nature Centre and compasses can be borrowed there. Another, more challenging trail (5-6 km, 10 fixed control points) runs across varying terrain with height differences to the south of Mathildedal village. Forest paths can be used, but there are no marked trails.

Swimming

A serene lakeside view with a clear blue sky above. The lake appears calm with minimal ripples on the water surface. To the right, there is a dense forest. A sandy shore curves from the foreground into the middle of the image, leading towards the forest.

Sandy beaches suitable for families with children are situated by lakes Matildanjärvi, Sahajärvi and Hamarinjärvi. The shallow waters there are ideal for children who want to wade or learn to swim. They are not official beaches.
