Salla Wilderness Park's Reindeer herding area is total of 200 hectares and fenced around. In the area there is alltogether 5 kilometers of marked hiking trails with information about local nature and culture. In yhe area reindeer are wandering free and you will see them during your walk. You will also find old style cabins, carnivore traps an so on. Ticket itself is a map and it is valid during the whole week. Ticket is 10€/person, 20€/family During the mating season, September – October, check from the Wilderness Park is it allowed to enter the area Park open for hiking only in summer!

Oppaamme tietävät paljon paikallisesta elämästä ja ympäröivästä luonnosta ja he mielellään jakavat tietoaan vieraille. Jos onni suosii ja sää sallii, Pirttivaaran päältä avautuvat maisemat ovat henkeä salpaava näky. Oppaamme repusta löytyvät retkieväät nautitaan tunturin laessa maisemia ihaillen. Kävelemme rauhalliseen tahtiin, joten sinulla on hyvin aikaa ihastella ja rentoutua hiljaisessa luonnossa.
Northern Light Reindeer Safari

Would you like to feel the silence of the polar night and travel in the dark forest with the reindeer? Would you like to have a chance to hunt for the the Northern Lights in the middle of nowhere? Our Northern Light hunting trip starts from the Reindeer Park after the darkness falls. In night time our reindeer are connected to each other so you don’t have to worry about anything else but enjoy the ride. Our route, about 6 kilometers, passes through a snowy forest and open swamp areas. During the ride we will stop at a corral, where we feed our female and calf reindeer. Half way we will have a bit longer break and make a big fire next to a swamp. Red flames and open fire will make you feel warm and create cozy atmosphere. Around the fire you can enjoy hot berry juice or hot chocolate. One can go a bit further from the fire place, in complete darkness, and try to hunt the Northern Lights. Swamp opens to the north and there’s no light pollution so if you are lucky, that is very good place to see the auroras.
Arctic Snowshoe Walk

Snowshoes is a fun way of moving in the snow and it is very easy to learn. On the trip you can advance on your own pace so you will have time to enjoy the nature in peace. From the winter forest you will find lots of interesting things. Our guide will tell you about the nature, animals and pretty much anything you want to ask. Along the way you will see a breathtaking wall of ice, you have a chance to ice fish and of course enjoy small lunch and hot beverages in traditional Lappish Hut. Base track is quite easy so pretty much everyone can do this trip. Normally we walk about 3 to 4 kilometers.
Canoe trip to wilderness lake

North from Arctic Circle there is plenty of light throughout the whole night. Under the midnight sun you can enjoy the beautiful nature for example from a canoe. Canoe trip starts from the Reindeer Park’s main building, where our guide will equip you with suitable gear. You will get life jackets, water proof bags and rain coats if necessary. From the Reindeer Park we continue to Hangasjärvi which is about 5 kilometers away. You will drive with your own car after our guide. Before heading out you will be taught all that is necessary to know about these indian canoes. We are using plastic two-person, very stable and easy canoes so there’s nothing to worry about. Hangasjärvi -lake is nice and easy place to paddle and you will have plenty of time to enjoy the nature and silence in the middle of nowhere. One thing important being in the nature here in Lapland is of course fixing a fire, preparing black pot coffee, grill a sausage and listen to stories about Lapland wonders. This we will also do during this canoe trip.
Kössi Reindeer Program

Lappish scenery, reindeer, black pot coffee and local people. Journey in to reindeer life starts from the auditorium of Reindeer Park, where guide will tell you about reindeer year cycle. From auditorium we continue to the Hall of Forest -display where you will find interesting facts about local nature, plants, animals etc. After all this you will have a chance to see reindeer up close. Reindeer Park is 200 hectare area and it is part of Kaunisharju natural forest. In the park we preserve old nature values. To the feeding place, that is about 1,5 kilometers away, everyone will go with their own vehicles. And next task is to call the reindeer and feed them. After reindeer are done eating we will gather in Kota or Laavu (small Lappish huts) and enjoy coffee or tea with local bun. Our local guides will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the reindeer. After the coffee break you can wander around the Park on your own, with the help of map you will get from our guide.
Husky Safari

On our Husky Safari you will feel like the hero of the wilderness. Enjoy the untouched wilderness and feel the speed of the huskies. Before the safari our guide will give you a driving lesson and tell you how to handle the sleigh. In every sleigh there is one place for passenger and driver is behind the sleigh. Passenger and driver will change places half a way so everyone gets a chance to drive. On the safari you will get to drive a team of dogs across varying Lappish terrain. Along the way we take care of you and serve some hot drinks and sweet buns. You can also grill a sausage by an open fire.
Reindeer Safari

Driving a reindeer sleigh through the wintery forest is a breathtaking experience. On this safari you have a chance to enjoy the nature and be amazed how reindeer go through the wilderness. Before the safari our guide will give you a driving lesson and tell you how to handle a reindeer. After the lesson you will get your own reindeer and you will drive it yourself behind our guide. Driving a reindeer and sleigh is quite simple and very relaxing way to move in the winter forest. Along the way we will have couple stops. First the female and calf reindeer needs to be fed. On a photo stop you can have photos of you and reindeer and maybe take a pic for next Christmas card. For picnic we stop in Lappish hut and enjoy sausage, hot drinks and bun. After driving the reindeer successfully you will earn a reindeer driving license.
Urpo Reindeer Feeding trip

Our reindeer wander free during the summer in 200 hectare area. We are still feeding them daily and now you have a chance to join us and meet our funny friends with antlers! Reindeer feeding trip takes about 30 minutes. You can drive to the area with your own car, behind our guide, or if you’re not travelling with your own car, you can jump into our Reindeer Van and get a ride. At the reindeer feeding place you have a great chance to ask our guide what ever you have wanted to know about the reindeer!
