Fishing

The River Pöyrisjoki and several other rivers in the wilderness area are ideal for fly and lure fishing. Common catches from the river include the Whitefish (Goregonus lavaretus), Pike (Esox lucius), Perch (Perca fluviatilis) and Burbot (Lota lota), as well as, the Grayling (Thymallus thymallus) and Trout (Salmo trutta). These same species can be found in Lake Pöyrisjärvi. The lake's dominant species is the Whitefish, which can weigh from 200 to 300 grams per fish.

Fishing permits are sold by Eräluvat.fi-online store (eraluvat.fi).

  • Hook-and line- fishing and ice fishing are allowed in the wilderness area without a permit. Hook-and-line fishing and ice fishing are forbidden in flowing waters.
  • To fish in the wilderness area's multiple rivers you must have fisheries management fee and Karesuvanto-Hetta 1402 permit.
  • To fish in the River Pöyrisjoki you must have fisheries management fee and Pöyrisjoki 1449 permit.
  • To fish in the in the River Ounasjoki you must have fisheries management fee and Ounasjoki 1442 permit.
  • To fish in the in the River Käkkälöjoki you must have fisheries management fee and Käkkälöjoki 1456 permit.
