Fishing
Lake Pihlajavesi is a great destination for fishing. However, movement and fishing restrictions set to protect the Saimaa ringed seal must be observed in the area.
Hook and line fishing and ice fishing
- Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are allowed under everyman's rights, except in the restricted areas between January 1st and April 30th.
- Fishers always need to check the restrictions on fishing sites at kalastusrajoitus.fi.
Angling
- Persons aged 18-69 years must pay the fisheries management fee (eraluvat.fi).
- If you fish with more than one rod, you need, in addition to the national fisheries management fee, a permit from the owner of the water area.
- If you fish with more than one rod in state-owned waters, you need Metsähallitus' angling permit no 7413 for Southern Finland (eraluvat.fi).
- Fishers always need to check the restrictions on fishing sites at kalastusrajoitus.fi.
Trap fishing
- Persons aged 18-69 years must pay the fisheries management fee (eraluvat.fi).
- In addition to the fisheries management fee, you must obtain permission from the owner of the water area.
- In the state-owned waters of Lake Pihlajavesi, fishing is allowed with Metsähallitus' trap fishing permit 7009 (eraluvat.fi/en). NOTE! Gillnet fishing is prohibited year-round in state-owned waters.

- Commercial fishing is also practiced on Lake Pihlajavesi.
Fishing Restrictions to protect the Saimaa ringed seal
- To protect the Saimaa ringed seal, specific fishing restrictions have been imposed on Lake Pihlajavesi.
- Gillnet fishing is prohibited annually from April 15th to June 30th in key movement areas of Saimaa ringed seal pups.
- In addition, the use of certain fishing gear and methods is prohibited year-round (mmm.fi/en) in areas favoured by the Saimaa ringed seal, in accordance with the Finnish Fishing Act, to safeguard its living conditions and breeding success.
- Gillnet fishing is prohibited year-round in state-owned waters.
Berry and mushroom picking
Berry and mushroom picking is allowed in the Lake Pihlajavesi area. The rich archipelago hides excellent berry and mushroom spots just waiting to be discovered by boaters.
Swimming
There is no official beach in the area. However, swimming is generally allowed at excursion harbours, many of which feature beautiful sandy shores.
