The Pihlajavesi–Olavinlinna national landscape captivates paddlers and boaters, often holding their attention for days. The area features over a dozen excursion harbours to serve visitors exploring the lake. Even the Saimaa Ringed Seal, one of the world’s rarest seals, is drawn to the region’s clear waters, abundant archipelago, and peaceful atmosphere.

Visitor's checklist

  • There are movement restrictions in the areaLanding and movement are prohibited from January 1st to April 30th to ensure undisturbed breeding and resting areas for the Saimaa ringed seal. On land areas marked on the map as part of the nature reserve, access is restricted. In areas where islands within the restricted zone are surrounded by state-owned water areas that are part of the nature reserve, the movement restriction also extends onto the ice up to 50 meters from the shoreline.
  • The destination is a nature reserveEveryman’s Right are not valid as such in the nature reserve.
  • Temporary camping in the area is allowedTemporary camping is allowed throughout the area, except in the restricted zones between January 1st and April 30th.
  • Make campfires only in designated sitesDuring a wildfire warning, making fires is prohibited.
  • Remember to bring a trash bagThere are no waste bins in the area. Bring a trash bag and take the trash with you.
  • Always keep pets on a leashDog waste should be cleaned away from the paths.
