A modest open wilderness hut is available year-round. A demanding wilderness destination. The wilderness hut is situated on the Hetta-Pallas Summer Trail 28 km from Hetta and 27 km from Pallas.

The open wilderness hut is a shared and free resting and overnight place for independent hikers (not for companies). You can stay in wilderness huts for one or two nights without a reservation. Be prepared for the possibility that there may not be enough space to sleep in the hut.

Facilities:

  • Sleeping places for 16+16.
  • Heating with a stove. Gas stove for cooking.
  • No drinking water point. The well at Hannukuru is closed. Water from natural sources must be purified before drinking.
  • No waste management. Take your own waste out of the area.
  • Bring your own cooking utensils.
  • Pets are allowed in the hut only with the consent of other users.
  • There is a sauna and a camping site at the small near-by lake.

Case of stomach flu have been reported at the Hannukuru left side Open Wilderness Hut. We will update this publication as new cases emerge. Although the number of cases is currently low, the illness can spread very quickly in the worst-case scenario. In Lapland, distances are long, so getting help can take a long time. Therefore, we urge hikers to pay special attention to hand hygiene.
