08/29/2025Rakkaudella suurtuntureille – Merja Paakkanen’s photography exhibition at Meän Gallery. The exhibition is on display from September 2 to December 31, 2025. Meän Gallery is located in the Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas in Äkäslompolo.
Merja Paakkanen’s photography exhibition Rakkaudella suurtuntureille is a tribute to the magnificent and delicate northern fell nature. The exhibition takes the viewer through the fells across different seasons, with accompanying texts reflecting on the changes taking place in the landscape and the emotions they evoke.
“For me, there is something deeply touching in that scenery. I could endlessly gaze at those rolling hills, the barren and rocky fell terrain, where the low vegetation hides a surprisingly diverse ecosystem. All of this is threatened by the climate crisis. What will it change in the fell nature? It’s frightening to imagine. And these changes are not in the future — they are happening right now. I can’t help but wonder what I could do to protect this nature.”
Merja Paakkanen is a professional nature photographer and writer who uses her images and texts to raise awareness about environmental and climate issues.
