The Paljakka Strict Nature Reserve is mainly located in the municipality of Puolanka, but its eastern parts extend into the municipality of Hyrynsalmi. The reserve is located east of national road 78 (Kajaani-Rovaniemi) and north of road 888 (Väyrylä-Ristijärvi).

• From national road 78, turn on to road 888 to Ristijärvi. Drive for approximately 11 kilometres and then turn north onto Hoikanvaarantie road. Follow Hoikanvaarantie road for approximately 3.5 km, just under a kilometre past the Paljakka ski resort, and then turn right onto Holstintie road. Drive Holstintie road for approximately 3.5 km.
• The Pirunkirkko parking area is located on the left side of the road. Please note that the Pirunkirkko parking area is approximately 200 metres farther north than the trailhead of the Ilveskierros trail on Holstintie road. The Ilveskierros trail, on the other hand, takes you to the Pajakka Strict Nature Reserve trail.

The Paljakka Strict Nature Reserve is not served by public transport.
