  • Bird Walk in Inari

    AT Nature

    Join us for the winter bird walk in Inari to observe local birds, which we help to survive the long winter by feeding them. The walk begins in our backyard where Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit and Great Tit are commonly around. If we are lucky we might even see Capercaillie and/or Willow Grouse. By mid-February or early March we start looking for first Pine Grosbeaks to return. As spring progresses, Bullfinch, Common and Arctic Redpolls, Greenfinch, Siskin and Brambling usually arrive at the feeding site. We also observe possible bird tracks and sign during the bird walk. You learn how birds survive a harsh and long winter and how e.g. Three-toed Woodpecker gets its food in old-growth forests. At the end of the walk we enjoy open-fire hot drink and local snacks in our kota while admiring birds or even squirrels at nearby feeders.

  • River Boat trip to Ravadasfalls

    Come to Lemmenjoki and spend a wonderful day as a guest with Paltto Saami family. During the day you will experience the chant of wilderness, hear astonishing traditional saami yoik, stories about reindeer herding, sámi culture and get to know the mysteries of feltmaking. We start our journey travelling 17 km by riverboat along the beautiful river Lemmenjoki, reaching deep into the national park and to the Ravadas falls. On the way there you’ll see astonishing mountain line rising from the river canyon. At Ravadas you’ll get to see nature carved falls and hear it’s powerful sound. We’ll have delicious reindeer soup at open fire and for dessert coffee and cake. While sitting around the fire, you’ll have an opportunity to hear traditional sámi yoik and stories about reindeerherding.     Canoeing on a river is an excellent and unique way to observe the nature of Northern Lapland and Inari. Paddling is easy to learn, so this trip suits well for everyone interested in nature and outdoor activities, even if it was your first time in a canoe. A local biologist guides your journey.We pick you up from Inari village to the starting point of the canoeing trip.While canoeing an easy part of river Vaskojoki, we observe the wildlife and vegetation of river banks. Vaskojoki river runs between the National park of Lemmenjoki and the wilderness area of Muotkatunturi. Birds are active and easier to follow in spring-summer when arctic nature awakens after long winter. In September, we can admire autumn colours along the river. We also land during our trip to enjoy an open fire snack lunch and to have a short walk on one of the ancient forests beside a river. On request, you can end your trip with a husky camp visit (additional cost).

  • Reideer Farm Visit, Sámi Culture at Reideerfarm

    The trip will take you for a visit to a Sami reindeer herding family of which the mother is a felt artisan and a Sami craft master. Your host will show different ways Sami artisans work today. In the home farm you will see how felt art takes shapes and colors from the surrounding nature and how the mother has clothed her family from head to toe with traditional Sami clothing. Your host will also tell about Sami culture and reindeer herding. You will see and feed reindeer at the home farm and hear a lot of info about reindeer herding in past and today. Tea included. Duration 1,5 hrs.
